Hi, I'm Ashley. If you have found your way here you are probably wondering what I'm all about and how I ended up being an obsessive seamstress. I grew up in a family of crafts people, with a fiber artist mother and a woodworking father. My maternal grandparents were also both crafty, always making things and tending garden. This family, with a make it yourself attitude, and home filled with handmade objects and furnishings, proved very influential in my decision to go into the arts. I attended the University of North Texas, studying Jewelry and Metalsmithing under Harlan Butt and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1999. While I no longer have time for much jewelry making I continue to find creative outlets via sewing, knitting, baking, gardening and so on. When I am not doing any of these things you can find me with my husband Frank either off exploring or simply relaxing.
I started this blog in 2007 to promote my jewelry and my etsy shop. At that time I was attempting to make a living from my handcrafted jewelry. I did that for about three years, but now work full time at a gourmet grocery store. Fellow Texans will be familiar with Central Market. I still maintain my etsy shop, but my primary love is sewing clothing for myself. This is a selfish endeavor, but one that makes me happy. My slow crafted wardrobe is what I plan to share with you.
My tag line of Mindfully Made extends to everything that I make and create. I am an introvert, a planner and certainly try to be thoughtful in all things. I love to cook and am currently pursuing a primarily Paleo diet. I love to garden and work in our yard. I spend a lot of time thinking about our 1923 home and creating a comfortable and beautiful space to live in. Frank and I love to camp and travel and daydream about all the places that we want to visit.
