Sundrop Lamps
I got this lamp from the sweet Heather Carlson of Sundrop Lamp Company. Heather and I had neighboring booths at Fiesta last weekend. Mom and dad had described her work as "Aspen Lamps", but they are so much more. Heather uses Aspen branches that she paints and woodburns onto. She also hand makes the lamp shades. The lamp I picked has an image of aspen trees with a lovely turquoise sky behind. I sent the lamp home with my folks, as it looks perfect in their house, and as a thank you for all their help and hard work at the show.Monday, April 20, 2009
I'm Back!
Mom, dad and I headed down to San Antonio on Thursday for Fiesta. We camped in the airstream at Alamo Koa, which was an experience. Friday morning we set up the booth on the grounds of the Southwest Center for Arts and Crafts. The staff and volunteers there are wonderful and really treat the artists great. I think I chose wisely for my first out of town show, and I felt very proud to have been chosen to participate.

My Painterly Cocktail Ring was on the front page on Sunday! I'm off to my folks tonight and we head to San Antonio tomorrow. Wish me luck and great weather at Fiesta.

Almost done...
I'm still here and still prepping for my show. We celebrated my dad's 65th birthday yesterday. It was a lovely day with great people and delicious food. Today dad helped me finish up some jewelry displays. An earring stand, and two necklace stands. He is such a good guy! I didn't take pics of those yet, but here is a picture of my other display. These will go inside plexi glass cubes. I put galvanized flashing on the wooden display in order to hold magnets. That way I can move my jewelry around. I then painted the metal with chalkboard paint and can write prices with a wet erase chalk marker. The chalkboard paint said to prep the surface by rubbing chalk accross it. I did that, but am wondering if I should since I'm not using actual chalk? It's not necessary, so it depends on if I like the look or not. I can't decide, what do you think, flat black, or chalk rubbed like in this picture?

My work on TV!
I just found out that my jewelry was on Tv. My work is at Art251 in Keller, Tx and they were featured on a local channel last month. My work appears at about 1:29 in the above video. How exciting!
Loving this song...
Frank and I finally got to see Rachel Getting Married, which we loved. In the wedding ceremony the groom sings a song a capela to his bride. It is really lovely and sounded vaguely familiar to both of us. Frank looked it up and realized it was "Unknown Legend" by Neil Young. It is a song from his Harvest Moon album. Well, we have since become totally addicted to the song, and Frank has learned the guitar part. It's quite beautiful, have a listen.
ps, I did mention that it is crazy around here, right?! In two weeks I will be in San Antonio!!! My wonderfully supportive parents are accompanying me to my show. I am still begging them for help making things as well. "Dad, can you make this earring stand for me, please?", "Mom, can we sew bags to put the jewelry in, please". They are too good to me, for sure! I am running out of time, but hope to finish my to do list of jewelry to make, stuff to pack, etc. I am working a temp job (bad timing I know) for the school district. I have met some wonderful and interesting ladies doing this. I am helping Frank with mowing, and as usual spring is just plain busy!
