Etsy Front Page

It is always exciting to be on the Etsy front page. Wednesday evening I shared that honor with fellow Etsy Metal members Alisa Miller and Mike and Mary. There were some really cool choices on this treasury and I am so glad I was included!

I'm really happy with the outcome and plan on making matching earrings. The include turquoise, green tourmaline and lapis cabochons. I love the collage series as it incorporates multiple colors of stones and want to expand with more designs.

New Charm for Mom

New Charm for Mom
Originally uploaded by ashleyjewelry
Can you tell that I like circles? I made this charm for my mom's birthday. It is reminiscent of the mother's pendant, don't you think?
This charm has Amethyst, Coral and Peridot cabochons. I like the way the back looks too, which is nice because all of her charms are reversible.

I made this pendant for my cousin who is expecting. It has alternative birthstones, white Sapphire for April, Citrine for November and a Ruby for July. The setting, I'm told, is called a gypsy setting, though I didn't do it the proper way. I like the results though, I think they look like little flowers.

I have admired this bangle from Siren Jewels ever since I put it in a treasury last summer. Well, it is finally mine and it is just as wonderful in person. I love the gradation in color of the faceted carnelian beads. These beads are like candy, so yummy, Thanks Melissa!

Experimetal

I am thrilled with my newest Etsy Metal acquisition. You are going to want to get one of Experimetal's pieces for your very own. Like all of Victoria's work, my new necklace is exquisite, wonderfully detailed, and as she says has fidget value. I love how the labradorite drop moves back and forth when I walk. Notice the little offset labradorite bead which gives this necklace asymetry.

Experimetal

I just happened to have a pair of labradorite and sapphire earrings and a saphire ring that I made that go perfectly with this necklace.

Thanks Victoria!!

I'm back...

The past week has been all about family. We traveled to Houston on Wednesday to bury my grandfather. He lived in Houston for most of his life and that is where my grandmother is buried as well. There were tears, but overall this week was a joyous celebration of a long life, well lived. My grandfather would have been proud, I believe. Stories were told in his honor about fishing, adventures and his life. After the funeral my aunt Nathalee and cousin Josh led a room full of family and friends in a sing along, right up PawPaw's alley! My friend Quincy of 3Billion helped my make a dvd of family photos and songs that were PawPaw's favorite. The dvd turned out great and we had copies to hand out to family.

I wanted to share some old family photos of my PawPaw.

Happy Mother's Day and My Dear PawPaw

Orchid for my Mom

Happy Mother's Day! To my mom and all my friends who are mothers, I am thinking of you today. Especially my own mother who lost her beloved father yesterday morning.

My PawPaw was 93 years old and the best grandpa I could have wished for. I was lucky to have almost 33 years with him. From my grandfather, Vernon "Bo" Ashley, I inherited a love of plants and the outdoors and a talent for creating and making things. He leaves behind a legacy of generousity and kindness, and a wealth of wonderful PawPaw stories. He was a great story teller, some surely tall tales, but none to be forgotten. I am his namesake, and I will think fondly of him forever. PawPaw always told me that the most important thing was to do what you loved, which I took to heart as very good advice.

My brother, PawPaw and I at Thanksgiving last year.

Bumpy Saucer Pendant

Bumpy Saucer Pendant
Originally uploaded by ashleyjewelry
I just finished this pendant yesterday. It is larger scale than I usually work, and I really enjoyed that. The circle is 2" diameter and hangs down 3.25" from the chain. I love all the little details. For example, you can't tell from the photo, but the circle spins around. Also, I used square tubing and a square snake chain for the first time. I was happy with that choice and will be using that element in future designs.

The circular portion is oxidized copper and the red is polymer clay that has been pushed through holes and baked in place. The stone in the center is a gray moonstone cabochon. I'm really happy with the result and plan to make some more pendants based on this design.

I think Bloom Studios is one of the most professional jewelry shops on Etsy. Christine is so friendly and easy to communicate with and her jewelry shows the amount of care she puts into her business.

I love my new pieces. I got her Falling Leaves Necklace and the Little Chocolate Diamond Ring. The pendant has a ruby with interesting facets . In many of her pieces, Christine uses a combination of silver and gold. I love the effect of the darkened silver with the shiny gold. A bonus to that is her work is affordable, but includes precious materials and is dressier than silver alone.

Thanks Christine!

I love that name because these earrings are totally fit for a party! She also does great work with resin in bright hues.

My Asymetrical Face

I have been noticing over the past year or so in photos that my nose points to the right. I've always wanted to try that photo manipulation where you take each side of your face and make a mirror image to see how it will look. Thanks to Rebekah of Lunasa Designs for sharing an easy way to do this online. The website is called PicHacks and lets you upload and manipulate any image. Here are my two faces.

Left Side:

Right Side:

The bangs make the second picture particularly funny with a major widow's peak. My suspicions were correct about my nose, the two right sides make a much bigger nose than the left. Anyways, I'm really excited to see my two faces. Try it out for yourself, its super easy.
